Speaking of Music

It’s that time again. Best of Bootie, 2012. And there’s some real standouts on it.

I find that Best of Bootie is hit or miss. It’s obviously really dependent on the quality of music that’s been released (especially pop music) in the previous year. But, the quality of the mashups can vary a lot too. One of my biggest complaints (and I get to complain. HAH!) is that sometimes there doesn’t seem to be a lot of effort put in. It’s one songs lyrics put over another songs melody. And that’s good and all, but there’s some that really hit it. And generally, those are the hard-work tracks, that mix up a half dozen different, disparate, tracks, and make them seamless. In fact, they can make a whole that is better than any of the originals.

This year? Yeah, this one, I think.

9. DJs From Mars – Internet Friends & Scary Monsters Back In Wonderwall (Oasis vs. AC/DC vs. Knife Party vs. Skrillex)

Or… Maybe this one?

10. Titus Jones – Close To Blowing In The Deep (Ke$ha vs. Adele vs. Madonna vs. Rihanna vs. Alex Clare vs. 3OH!3)

Shit. there’s this one too.

11. Dan Mei – Good Time Gangnam Style (Bootie Edit) (Psy vs. Alex Clare vs. Nicki Minaj vs. Ram Jam vs. Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen)

You know, just go get them.

Ignore the video. IT IS IRRELEVANT (actually, it’s quite good on its own). Pay attention to the music.

This year, though, the ones that didn’t make the cut? those’re also fantastic. In fact, Titus Jones is now one of my favorites, along with DJ Schmolli and DJ Lobsterdust.

But, I can say, for me, this year, 2012, is a better year than 2011. This year, the effort is in. It’s not two songs together. It’s not three, it’s not five, in a lot of cases. And, honestly, Schmolli managed to go insane with this (that isn’t on Bootie, but is still emminently awesome):

Just… go get the Best of Bootie, already.
