Day 15: Things in the Fog (part II)
Another day of fog, we’re going on forty-eight hours now. Solid. Fog. Anyone seen “The Mist”? Yeah, it’s THAT creepy walking home in it.
I ran some HDR again, mostly because of the excellent response I got on yesterday’s HDR of the gas station. For the last little while, I’ve not been happy with my HDR, but I think this one works. I shot it ‘properly’ too: five jpegs, rather than creating jpegs from one raw file by altering the exposure. The downside? No tripod, so I had to rely on Photomatix to compensate for any camera movement.
This is actually taken from the fourth floor office I work in, behind Billings Bridge in Ottawa. Not only were the five separate images shot hand-held, but the window was… unclean… to say the least. So, I’m pretty happy with it, all in all.
Day 14: More Fog, Getting Gas.
It’s been a while since I played with High Dynamic Range, or HDR. The city is still covered in fog, making shots generally difficult. I had to run the HDR of this shot in Photomatix, then Noise Ninja in Bibble Pro, THEN over to Photoshop to play with the levels. Quite a time consuming process.
But, I’ve been iffy on HDR for a while, too. I’ve had problems with very noisy images, that I just can’t clean up. They’re so close to good that it becomes very frustrating. I had that problem printing one that I’d done last summer, of a hotrod in the sunset that I adore. But the print showed massive pixelling and noise. I might be on the way to solving some of that problem.
